Building Better Financial Futures
We started torqemalix because we believed managing money shouldn't feel like solving a puzzle with missing pieces. Every day, we work with Australian businesses and individuals who want clear, practical expense tracking that actually makes sense.
Our Journey Forward
From a simple idea in 2019 to helping thousands track their finances more effectively, our path has been shaped by real user feedback and genuine problem-solving.
The Problem Became Personal
After watching too many small business owners struggle with complicated expense tracking, our founder Caoimhe decided to build something different. She'd seen entrepreneurs spend more time fighting their financial software than running their businesses.
First Real Users
We launched our beta with 50 local businesses in the Hunter Valley. The feedback was honest and sometimes brutal, but it shaped everything we built next. One café owner told us our early version "finally made sense" – that comment still drives our design decisions.
Growing With Purpose
We expanded beyond small businesses to help individuals track personal expenses. The core principle stayed the same: financial tools should clarify, not complicate. By year-end, we were serving over 2,000 active users across New South Wales.
What's Next
This year we're focusing on advanced reporting features and mobile improvements. We're also exploring partnerships with local accountants to make tax season less stressful for our users. The goal remains simple: help people understand their money better.
The People Behind torqemalix
We're a small team that believes good financial software comes from understanding real-world challenges. Everyone here has wrestled with expense tracking in their own lives or businesses.
Before starting torqemalix, Caoimhe spent five years building financial systems for mid-size Australian companies. She got frustrated watching good software become unnecessarily complex, so she decided to build something cleaner. When not coding, she's usually hiking around the Blue Mountains.
Stellan joined us in 2022 after working with MYOB for three years. He specializes in making complex financial calculations simple and handles most of our integration work with Australian banking systems. He's originally from Perth but loves Newcastle's coffee scene.
What Drives Our Work
These aren't just corporate values on a wall. They're the principles we actually use when making decisions about features, partnerships, and how we spend our time.
Clear Purpose Over Feature Bloat
Every feature we build has to solve a real problem. We've turned down dozens of "cool" ideas because they didn't make expense tracking simpler or more accurate. Sometimes the best feature is the one you don't add.
Local Partnerships
We work closely with Australian accountants, bookkeepers, and business advisors. Their insights help us build features that actually matter during tax season and financial reviews.
Data Privacy
Your financial information stays in Australia and never gets sold to third parties.
Speed Matters
Nobody wants to wait for their expense reports to load. We optimize for quick, responsive interactions.
Mobile-First Thinking
Most expense tracking happens on phones while people are out buying things. Our mobile experience isn't an afterthought – it's often where we start designing new features.
Honest Customer Support
When something breaks or confuses users, we fix it rather than just explaining it away. Our support team includes developers who can actually change the software based on your feedback. Most issues get resolved within 24 hours.
